Additives for Compounds & Masterbatches
Additives for compounds and masterbatches play a key role in enhancing the performance, processability, appearance, and durability of polymer materials across a wide range of industries. From improving mechanical strength and flexibility to optimizing color dispersion, UV stability, flame retardancy, and compatibility between materials, modern additive solutions enable manufacturers to tailor plastics to specific application requirements.
Used in automotive, packaging, construction, consumer goods, wire & cable, and industrial applications, additives and modifiers help create high-performance compounds and masterbatches that deliver consistent quality, efficient processing, and long-term reliability. By combining functionality with material innovation, these solutions support the development of more durable, sustainable, and value-added plastic products. modern manufacturing.
Pigment & Fillers
Pigments are used to give color and functionality. They are often supplied in powder, concentrates or dispersions. Most pigments are treated or processed to increase durability, color strength or to make them easier to incorporate. Fillers are specially engineered additives added to formulations not just to reduce cost, but to enhance specific properties such as strength, durability, fire resistance, rheology (flow), thermal stability, and adhesion. Fillers can be natural or synthetic and influence many properties in polymers, surface
coatings and sealants.
Additives & Modifiers
Additives and modifiers play a critical role in fine-tuning the performance, processing, and durability of plastic materials. By incorporating carefully selected functional components, base polymers can be enhanced to meet specific technical and aesthetic requirements. Our portfolio includes solutions that improve impact resistance, UV and thermal stability, flame retardancy, color, and processability, as well as modifiers that adjust flexibility, stiffness, and surface properties. These materials enable manufacturers to optimize product performance, extend lifecycle, and achieve consistent quality across a wide range of applications.
Special Masterbatches
Masterbatches are concentrated additive solutions used in plastics manufacturing to provide color or enhance specific material properties. Produced by encapsulating pigments and/or additives into a carrier resin through a heat process and then cooling and granulating the material, masterbatches enable efficient and cost-effective modification of raw polymers during processing.

Masterbatches from Customized Compound Solutions
Opti-Tec™ masterbatches developed Bjørn Thorsen’s own brand Customized Compound Solutions are specialized additive concentrates developed to modify and enhance polymer properties, enabling tailored material solutions for specific application requirements. Designed to improve both processing efficiency and end-product performance, these advanced masterbatches offer manufacturers greater flexibility in creating multifunctional materials with optimized characteristics. In addition to delivering consistent and vibrant coloration, Opti-Tec™ solutions can incorporate functional additives such as flame retardants, antimicrobial agents, and processing aids, helping to improve durability, safety, functionality, and overall production efficiency across a wide range of polymer applications.
Plasticizers
Plasticizers are additives that enhance flexibility, workability, and durability by reducing brittleness and improving the performance of polymer-based formulations.

Fast Fusing Plasticizers from Valtris
Santicizer® and Platinum are fast fusing plasticizers from Valtris, available for polymer systems including PVC, latex, polyurethane, and polysulfide to name a few. The products show properties such as exceptional permanence, cold temperature flexibility, flame retardancy and resistance to extraction, migration, and exudation. They are targeted for applications in the following industries: building & construction, coated fabrics, film & sheet, plastisols, sealants & adhesives, transportation.
Bjørn Thorsen also distributes Cereplas™ from Valtris, which are adibates, trimellatates, DOTP, and sebacates.
Purging
Purging compounds or agents are products formulated specifically to clean thermoplastics molding machines and extruders. They typically contain a base resin and other additives intended to clean the screw, barrel, and extruder die.
Release agents or process aids are all the cleaners, lubricants, protective agents and mold maintenance products, which ensure that injection or extrusion machines run at their optimal conditions, avoiding production stops or any other issues that might arise during material processing.

Ultra Purge™ Purging compounds
Bjørn Thorsen offers the highly efficient Ultra Purge™ Purging compounds from Chem-Trend developed to match with the materials, machines and operating ranges of plastics processors producing a wide range of end products. They are used for color and material changes, removal of color and carbon deposits, as well as cleaning hot runner mold.
LUSIN® Process aids
Bjørn Thorsen distributes a wide range of LUSIN® materials from Chem-Trend: cleaners, lubricants, protective agents, release agents and mold maintenance products. These are high-performance products developed to meet the requirements of thermoplastics processing industry, in order to improve process efficiency and product quality, whilst also lower maintenance, repair, and operational costs.
